Special Sergeant Simon Jesse has received a High Sheriff’s Award for outstanding community service at a ceremony organised by the Trustees of The Witham Hub on Saturday (14th October). The Trustees nominated Simon for the award, which was presented to him by the High Sheriff of Essex, Charles Bishop.
The award recognises his amazing contribution towards law and order in the Town, where he is very well known and respected for the thousands of hours of his own time that he works as a Special Sergeant, supporting the local community.
Simon thought he was attending The Hub for work associated with his local policing role in the community and was blown away to find the High Sheriff of Essex, the Hub Trustees, Witham Town Clerk, Nikki Smith and many of the Hub’s volunteers all waiting for the award ceremony.
Commenting on the award on behalf of Witham Town Council, Nikki Smith, the Town Clerk, said: “We are delighted to see S/Sgt Jesse receiving this reward in recognition of all of the time he spends helping keep Witham residents safe. The Community Special Constable scheme was launched in Essex in 2018, as a collaboration between local councils and Essex Police and S/Sgt Jesse was one of the first officers to join the scheme. We are grateful that he has stayed with the force all this time and in June received his 5 year award.
“S/Sgt Jesse is a familiar face in the town, often seen interacting with residents at events, at The Witham Hub as well as on routine patrols and we are pleased to see his dedication rewarded.”
Tina Townsend, Chair of the Witham Hub’s Trustees said: “Having known Simon since he became a Special and seen the dedication that he has put into the role, it was an easy decision for me to discuss this with the Trustees and suggest putting him forward for the award. Simon has supported the Hub since we started and continues to do so at the regular beat surgery we host but he is also a friend of the Hub and a supporter of everything it stands for.
“This award could not, in our opinion, go to a more dedicated and deserving person.”
